Alexandra Paperno’s painting is set on the borderline between abstraction and figurativeness, between the image of an object and the interpretation of its attributes. She works with the theme of modern architecture and utopia mainly using monochrome and sky-like colors with light tone gradations.
Abolished Constellations (2015-2018)
In 1922, the International Astronomical Union adopted the modern list of 88 constellations. It was agreed that the list would be final and no new constellations would be added. The number 88 has no particular scientific or cultural significance. It is random. Constellations not recognized by the International Astronomical Union were abolished. It does not mean that they vanished as some of them appear in old maps and etchings. 51 constellations that fell victim to unification and standardization are revived in the series of Abolished Constellations.
